For many firms, the pandemic accelerated digital transformation to ensure business resiliency. Cloud adoption was once seen as a “nice-to-have” among enterprises, but COVID-19 has changed that.
In the Philippines, manufacturers have turned to Cloud computing to align their technical infrastructure with shifting market demands and to be a foundational aspect in undertaking digital transformation across critical facets of their business driven by legacy systems.
Pharmaceutical Production
The pharmaceutical sector, critical to the health and well-being of millions, faced unprecedented challenges during the pandemic. A leading manufacturer at the brink of operational halt turned to cloud technology to safeguard its business operation. The shift to cloud-based infrastructure enabled their remote monitoring and control of production processes. It enhanced the data analytics capabilities to improve its overall product quality and competitiveness in time-to-market.
Consumer Goods Distribution
The consumer goods sector, characterized by its fast-paced nature, encountered significant logistics and supply chain disruptions. A prominent manufacturer specializing in essential goods harnessed cloud technologies to overhaul its distribution strategy. By leveraging cloud-based platforms, the company achieved visibility across its supply chain, facilitating real-time decision-making and inventory management. This strategic move mitigated the risks posed by the pandemic and propelled the company towards achieving operational excellence.
Textile Manufacturing
Amid growing concerns over sustainability and ethical production, manufacturers in the textile industry found an ally in cloud technology. A visionary manufacturer integrated cloud-based solutions to monitor and optimize its use of natural resources, reducing waste and energy consumption. This eco-friendly approach aligned with global sustainability goals and resulted in significant cost savings. Furthermore, the cloud infrastructure facilitated remote collaboration among designers and suppliers, accelerating the design-to-production cycle.
Automotive Manufacturing
The automotive industry, faced with a stall in production and a fragmented supply chain, discovered resilience in cloud technology. An automotive manufacturer embraced cloud-based systems to streamline operations, from production planning to quality control. This digital transformation enabled the company to adapt to changing market demands and regulatory requirements. The cloud platform’s scalability also allowed for the integration of AI and IoT to further enhance operational efficiency.
Food and Beverage Manufacturing
The food and beverage industry, pivotal in maintaining food security, faced daunting challenges in maintaining production and distribution. A pioneering manufacturer, however, turned these challenges into opportunities by adopting cloud technology. The integration of cloud-based ERP systems revolutionized its supply chain management, enabling the tracking of ingredients from source to shelf. This transparency ensured not only compliance with health regulations but also an increase in consumer trust. Additionally, cloud platforms facilitated the exploration of new markets through e-commerce channels, broadening the company’s consumer base.
A large, global manufacturer of Health and Hygiene products, also ranked as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, embarked on its journey to streamline its process by injecting cloud-based solutions, starting with Invoice Creation.
Their Distribution Management System (DMS) produces the Sales Invoices and other trade transaction documentation. It supports various order fulfillment form formats per distribution partner. The administrative processors manually encode, re-format, and print the documentation needed.
With the surge in market demand for health products during the global pandemic, the volume of transaction documentation increased, highlighting the error-prone manual activities, the lack of controls in their process, and the multiple formats used across the distribution partner network.
Pointwest created a cloud-based solution to complement the DMS capabilities. A custom-built online tool, accessible to regional distributor sites, was developed to manage templates, accept text-based input data files, and automatically generate print-ready documents according to the appropriate distribution partner template. Within 11 weeks, the solution became usable in the AWS cloud environment and onboarded a pilot of 81 users, 24 distributors, and ~300,000 invoices.
Through business operations modernization manufacturers continue to thrive and elevate the standards of service excellence, business resilience, and sustainability.
